Those looking for a way to spend a sunny Sunday can tour some historic homes in a leisurely stroll through one of Durham's oldest neighborhoods.

The Trinity Park Home Tour features some nine of the neighborhood's most celebrated homes in a tradition started in 1975. The tour is typically held every two years and was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Attendees will be able to go inside the homes and see recent renovations in one of Durham's most established areas. Some of the homes were built more than 100 years ago.

Trinity Park is nestled next to Duke University's east campus. Established in the late 1800s, it evolved to host a variety of architectural home styles and attracted some of the city's important figures.

The neighborhood is a nod to the city that mixes new and old themes, in a community that preserves its past while welcoming change.

"We're proud of the diversity of this neighborhood," said Karalyn Colopy, president of the Trinity Park Neighborhood Association. "We've got all kinds of housing here, from large homes to small homes to duplexes to Section 8 apartments."

The tour is scheduled on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. You can buy tickets online.
