A LAWMAKER'S HERE ARE TIGHTENING THAT ALL STEPPING UP THE PUNISHMENT IT WOULD BE A MINIMUM UNDER THIS BILL OF 58 MONTHS FOR THE ATTACK THAT'S CLOSE TO 5 YEARS THE MINIMUM PUNISHMENT FOR TRESPASSING WOULD BE FOR MONTHS. WE DO KNOW THIS BILL WAS FILED WHILE AGO. YOU KNOW, WHEN IT MIGHT BE FINALIZED, PROBABLY TOMORROW. IT CLEARED THE HOUSE TODAY UNANIMOUSLY. IT'S GOT TO GO BACK TO THE SENATE FOR ONE FINAL VOTE. THERE'S BROAD SUPPORT IN THE SENATE AS WELL. BUT WHAT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE MOVING IS A BILL. WE TOLD EVERYBODY ABOUT A FEW MONTHS AGO THAT WOULD REQUIRE SECURITY UPGRADES IN THE POWER GRID. I THINK COST IS A CONCERN. THERE ARE A LOT OF THE SUB STATIONS AROUND THE STATE. IF YOU UPGRADE EVERY ONE OF THEM BY LAW, THAT'S GOING TO TRIGGER BIG COST. ALSO, DUKE ENERGY HAS MADE A NUMBER OF UPGRADES ON THE ROAD SINCE THE ATTACK. GOT IT. ALL RIGHT.

Two new bills aimed at changing North Carolina's rules for voting, and how elections are administered, are expected to quickly advance in the state Senate after an initial debate Wednesday.

IT WOULD ALSO MAKE IT HARDER TO SAME DAY REGISTRATION. REPUBLICANS SAY THE CHANGES WILL INCREASE ELECTION SECURITY AND INTEGRITY. WELL, OPPONENTS, A STATE ELECTIONS ARE ALREADY VERY SECURE. THE OTHER BILLS AIMED AT THE STATE BOARD OF ELECTIONS THAT WOULD LET LAWMAKERS NOT THE GOVERNOR APPOINTS THE BOARD WOULD HAVE AN EVEN NUMBER OF MEMBERS FOR FROM EACH PARTY. CURRENTLY THE RULES SAY THAT WHOEVER OCCUPIES THE GOVERNOR'S MANSION GETS A 3 C MAJORITY ON THAT PORT. >> PROTESTERS AND DEMOCRATIC LAWMAKERS SPOKE OUT AGAINST THESE BILLS LAST NIGHT CALLING THEM A POWER GRAB THAT WOULD RESTRICT VOTING ACCESS. GOP PROPONENTS SAY THIS IS ABOUT ELECTION SECURITY AND INTEGRITY. NOW BOTH AGAIN GOING TO BE DELIBERATED ON THE FULL SENATE FLOOR THIS MORNING AND COULD MOVE INTO NORTH CAROLINA

House Bill 574 says a student's sex is designated at birth, and that anyone designated male at birth can't play on women's or girls' sports teams in school, even if they transition to female.

Good morning. I'm meteorologist Elizabeth Gardiner. We're looking at a pleasant morning. It's a little bit warmer than it was yesterday and a little bit muggier too. Let's jump over and take a look at future cast and you can see partly cloudy skies showing up first thing this morning and that's going to be the case through a good bit of the day today. We'll pause it there at nine o'clock, a good bit of sunshine and then partly cloudy there at noon. Once we get to mid to late afternoon, we have the chance of a few isolated thunderstorms popping up. We're giving it about a 30% chance those could pop up in any part of the viewing area. But you can see there will be just isolated. We're not looking at a whole lot of rainfall out there for us today. Our monkey meter this morning sitting at tolerable at about 62 yesterday. It was more in the comfy zone. It was hot yesterday though. But if you could find a shady spot, it felt pretty good. It's creeping up a little bit today. So you may notice the humidity. It will be fairly tolerable. Again tomorrow Saturday and Sunday too should be on the drier side. We get into next week, the muggy meter is going to go up, but our temperatures will go down as we have a better chance for rain. You're headed down to the beaches over the weekend. It's looking nice. We should see fairly dry conditions all across the state. An isolated thunderstorm can pop up inland from the beaches, you know, along that sea breeze front. But temperatures up and down the coast should be in the low eighties for highs on Saturday and Sunday and the mountains. Same story there too. You should see a good bit of sunshine. 82 in Asheville, temperatures are very comfortable. 74 on Saturday in Boone and a little cooler as you get into some of the higher elevations down around falls at 71. Check in our looking at mostly below normal temperatures. It's not going to be terribly hot for us. Getting into the weekend, we will see the potential for some temperatures climbing to around 90 or so, but especially getting into next week, we may see a low pressure system developing to bring us a better chance of rain. So you can see Wednesday there at four o'clock, Wednesday is actually the first day of summer and our high temperature could be back into the upper seventies. The flip side of that is rain, but you know, we are starting to dry out so we could use some rain around here.
