Peloton recall: 2 million exercise bikes due to danger of fall, injury

Peloton on Thursday recalled 2.2 million exercise bikes because the bike's seat post can break during use, causing the user to fall.

The impacted bikes feature model number PL01 and measure 4 feet by 2 feet. The bikes have an adjustable seat, handlebar and screen, which tilts up and down to accommodate different heights.

The Peloton name and model number are on the inside front fork near the flywheel.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, 35 people have reported the seat post breaking and detaching during exercise. There were 13 reported injuries, including a fractured wrist, cuts and bruises.

The Peloton bikes were sold for about $1,400 between January 2018 and May 2023 at Peloton and Dick's Sporting Goods stores nationwide and online at Onepeloton.com, Amazon.com and Dickssportinggoods.com.

People who own the bikes should stop using them and contact Peloton for a free seat post that can be self-installed.

Call Peloton toll-free at 866-679-9129 from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m. seven days a week or get support online.
