Parents and caregivers were urged Tuesday to stop using Boppy and Pottery Barn newborn loungers after two more infant deaths were reported following a September 2021 recall.

The 2021 recall was issued after eight babies died while using the pillow-like products. Since that recall, a total of 10 infant deaths have been connected to the loungers.

More than 3 million newborn loungers were recalled due to the risk that infants can suffocate if they roll, move, or are placed on the lounger in a position that obstructs breathing, or roll off the lounger onto an external surface, such as an adult pillow.

The recalled items according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission include Boppy: the Boppy Original Newborn Lounger, the Boppy Preferred Newborn Lounger and the Pottery Barn Kids Newborn Boppy Lounger.

The CPSC reports the two additional deaths occurred in October and November 2021.

In October 2021, CPSC reported an infant was placed on the lounger for sleep and then rolled underneath a nearby adult pillow and suffocated. In November 2021, the CPSC reports an infant was placed on a newborn lounger in an adult bed with a parent and soft bedding and was later found dead. The cause of death was undetermined.

The products have not been sold since the recall, but people are selling them on Facebook Marketplace and other websites.

CPSC has reportedly asked Facebook to remove those listings.

The recall is one of many infant product safety concerns over the years.

An investigation revealed the deaths of at least 28 infants between 2012 and 2018 tied to nursing pillows and baby loungers.

Anyone with one of the recalled Boppy loungers can get a full refund. Call The Boppy Company toll-free at 800-416-1355 or go to their website and click “Recall & Safety Alert” for more information.
