Weekend picks: First Friday, Spring Festival

There are a few more chances to see the Easter bunny this weekend.

Editor's note: Rain is in the forecast for much of Friday and Saturday. Check event Facebook pages and websites before heading to outdoor events to make sure they're still happening!

On stage (and indoors!):

April 4-9: Les Misérables - Cameron Mackintosh presents the acclaimed production of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg’s Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon, Les Misérables, at DPAC through April 9.

April 5-23: Jersey Boys - Theatre Raleigh will present this story of four blue-collar kids who became one of the greatest successes in pop-music history. The show runs through April 23.

April 8-9: League of Legends esports tournament: This major event will be held at PNC Arena. Doors open at 2 p.m. each day.

First Friday

Rescheduled for May 12 due to weather: First Friday Market and Movie Night - Head to Moore Square starting at 5 p.m. for this monthly event featuring food trucks, live entertainment, local market, free games and a free outdoor movie night. This month's movie is "The Lego Movie."

April 7: First Friday Raleigh at Curate Downtown - Enjoy some shopping from 6 to 9 p.m. at Curate in downtown Raleigh. There will be complimentary drinks and items from more than 60 local artists and makers.

April 7: First Fridays at the Mill - Head to Hillsborough to enjoy live music with Blue Cactus, open artist studios with the Eno Arts Mill Studio Artists, food from local food truck Mama Voulas, beer from Red Oak, Ponysaurus Brewing, wine, and NA beer selection. Kids can have fun with activities by the Art Therapy Institute.

Family Fun

April 7: Opening Night for the Fayetteville Woodpeckers -The Fayetteville Woodpeckers are a Minor League Baseball team of the Carolina League and the Single-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. They will take on local rival, the Carolina Mudcats.

April 8: Easter at Olde Raleigh Village - The Easter Bunny will be at Olde Raleigh Village from 1 to 3 p.m. Get your photo taken and enjoy yard games and arts and crafts tables.

Canceled: Mid-Town Square Spring Festival 2023 - Bond Brothers Beer Company will host this festival beginning at noon. There will be new beer releases, vendors and craft tents, food trucks and live music. A dedicated kids zone will also be open from noon to 4 p.m. The festival is free to attend, however drink purchases are through tickets purchased the day of the event.

April 8: Pop-up Egg Hunt - Join in for a free pop-up egg hunt at Duke Homestead! Kids will be able to roam the grounds to find hidden eggs, and turn them in for prizes. Get the whole family playing with egg-themed games, as well as traditional historic games, and enjoy a puppet show!

April 8: Hoppin' Around Downtown Fayetteville - Honey the Bunny, is coming to Downtown Fayetteville for the Hoppin’ Around Downtown Fayetteville Scavenger Hunt! Honey the Bunny, the sweetest bunny you ever did meet, will be greeting downtowners as they shop, eat, and drink in our central business district. Scattered around Downtown, you will find four-inch eggs with a surprise or find one of the three 10-inch Golden Eggs.

April 8: Family Saturday Series at Carolina Theatre -Gypsy Kathaa is a truly unique experience combining Flamenco and Kathak, two high energy, colorful, melodious art forms on one stage and the beautiful fusion they create. Tickets are just $5.

April 8: Doggie Easter Egg Hunt: Let your dogs get in on the egg hunting fun with this cute event in Hillsborough. Join Hillsborough K-9 officers Jet and Vader at 11 a.m. at Gold Park this Saturday. Easter eggs with treats will be hidden at the park, with a separate search area available for senior and small dogs. Prizes will be awarded to dogs with the best Easter costumes. Be sure to bring a basket for your dog’s collected eggs!

April 8: Flashlight Egg Hunt: Carrboro is hosting a Spring Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt for youth 11-14 years old. Bring your own flashlight and bag or basket and hunt for special golden eggs in the dark. Prizes will be offered. Registration starts at 7:45pm.

Now-April 9: Dino Egg Hunt - Bring your junior paleontologist on an excavation adventure as they hunt for colorful dinosaur eggs in exchange for a special “Dino-prize” and explore the Museum of Life and Science’s Dinosaur Trail in Durham. Tickets are $7.

Now-April 9th: Spring Fest: Egg Hunt with goats - spring Haven Farm is hosting egg hunts for several weeks. Kids can ride the tractor train, build unique crafts, shop at our general store for one-of-a-kind candy, play games under the pavilion and cuddle goats! Tickets start at $13.50.
