Clinton police arrest suspected bank robber

Clinton police officers arrested a suspected bank robber on Tuesday afternoon.

Steven Whitfield, 18, of Clinton, is charged with robbery and he was processed at the Sampson County Magistrates Office. Whitfield has a $25,000 secure bond.

Police officers responded at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday at the First Citizens Bank at 302 Northeast Blvd. Officers arrested Whitfield on Northeast Boulevard near Smith Street.

“Officers did an outstanding job apprehending this subject just minutes after the incident took place," Police Chief Anthony Davis said in a news release. "I’m thankful for their hard work and dedication to our community."
