One year ago today, 19 students and two teachers were shot and killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

School systems in our area have been working to boost security and safety.

That includes more oversight for those allowed inside schools.

Some big changes have been made and more could be on the way.

Schools across the state are investing millions of dollars in school security -- everything from added police presence to high-tech weapons detection systems.

It was just a few months ago when we saw police surrounding East Millbrook Middle School. School lockdowns have become the norm as we continue to see an increase of threats made to local schools.

On Tuesday night Wake County Public Schools considered new rules for visitors.

Under a draft plan, visitors would need to show ID, submit to a background check and be chaperoned throughout their visit.
