Durham police find two gunshot victims minutes apart Tuesday

Police responded to two gunshot wounds minutes apart Tuesday evening in Durham.

According to Durham police, officers responded to a call of a gunshot wound around 6:17 p.m. on the 1000 block of West Main Street. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot.

Police have not confirmed if the victim was shot at the scene or somewhere else.

Just eight minutes later and three miles away, officers responded to another gunshot wound call, this time on the 2200 block of Angier Avenue. Officers found a man who was struck by a ricochet when they arrived.

The victim in the first call was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while the man in the second call refused treatment.

As of Wednesday, police said no additional victims have been reported. Police also said Wednesday the shootings are connected, but did not explain the circumstances.

Police data shows there have been six assaults near the 1000 block of West Main Street this year. Half of those have happened in the last 10 days.
